Very many years ago my friends had their second child.
They named her “Monique” and as soon as I heard that name something
jumped inside me and I knew that if ever my female self was to become a reality one day, then that name was mine !

Jumping forward fifteen years I looked up the name as my circumstances
changed and my future was being re-moulded.
To my delight I found that “Monique” comes from Monica which means good friend and one who listens.

For reasons I still cant comprehend, my parents named me “Mervyn” which means “lover of the sea” ….Le Mer (sea) as in Mermaid.
To my frustration, even though my name has been changed for quite some time, my Mother still insists on calling me both Mervyn and “he” to all and sundry that she talks to.
Sometimes it just so hard to escape the past!

    cheers

    Monique

I know how you feel Monique, I change my name on the 31st of Jan 2007, I had surgery May 29th last yr and had my Birth Certificate change so I am legally female and Mum and Dad still refuse to call me Sharon or to refer to me as a female, they wont even acknowledge the name, although at least Dad will talk to me, mom won’t, at least when I am called Peter in the street, people will think they said it as Peta, interesting thing is though I should have been called Sydney as was tradition on dad’s side of the family, it usually went Thomas, then Sydney (my Grandfather’s name and also, my nieces middle name) and alternated each generation, but mom was determined not to have me called that, it makes you wonder if there was a particular reason behind it.

I remember one Christmas we had friend’s of my sister over that only know me as Sharon, and when they asked about something, mum said” to go ask PETER (she emphasized the Peter) about it”, they were confused as they didn’t know who she was talking about it and one of them also referred to me as Sharon and Mum got angry with them, and now they really don’t like being around mum.

Quite a few family friends (They are glad and think it is great that I finally did it, as they can see my life is a lot better now and they refer to me as Sharon and as female) have told me, they find it difficult to talk to mum now, and tend to hold back a bit, they also try not to say anything about me, as mum tends to get quite angry and iut scares them. I feel she needs help but she wont go see or talk to anyone about it, her sister even tried, but to no avail

    Oh well Family.

Anyway, hope you are dong well Monique
    Hugs
    Sharon

I don’t know exactly where Helen came from. My male name is Alan and Helen is close to Alan, but I don’t think that had any bearing on the choice. I just feel comfortable as Helen.

Hey girls, for the last twenty years I have been using Loretta as my femme name. This name was selected as a bit of a light hearted attempt to approach an unusual situation.
The name Loretta was chosen from the Monty Python movie, The Life Of Brian where Eric Idle announces to The Peoples Front Of Judea that he wants to be a woman and I want you all to call me, Loretta.
    LOL.
Well things have changed a lot in my life and I am now setting off down the road of coming out and living full time as the best looking old lady on the coast. Still very early stages in the big picture.
I am going to use the name I was christened in 1951, so from now on I want you all to call me Dallas.
Maybe it was The Judeans Peoples Front or The Peoples Popular Front Of Judea…. Splitters
Thanx girls, hope I live long enough to meet you all. XXX

    Hello Girls,

I have only recently decided on my name, it came out of the blue when I was joining an over seas site, (wish I had’nt done that!) and is dedicated to an extended family member whom I once had a crush on, and probably still do !! The truth is that I did’nt really have a name, so I did think long and hard about this and I decided that I FEEL like a Jannine, so then I must BE a Jannine. This state of mind is constant, just lately, especially when I am wearing her panties that I disceetly borrowed a while back !! šŸ˜† šŸ˜† Sorry, that’s rather distasteful. I do not have a wardrobe any longer, and so the opportunity arose. What was a girl to do? I have yet to start collecting and I’m a little cashed up so look out Savers, here I come!!

Although i love the name Lauren and doubt i will ever change it but if i did it would be changed to hayley….why ? my real name is Lee and most people at work getting my attention say hey lee. they would be calling me by my fem name and not even realising it, thats if it was my name.

As it seems many do, I chose my name when I first joined a trans* forum. I only really chose it for anonymity not femininity but if I was to have a female monica then I wanted one that I associated with femininty.

I chose Chloe because I liked the ‘sound’ of the word – it reminds me of wispering in someones ear – it’s soft, full bodied, short & sweet. It’s interesting to look at, with a hint of the unusual but still recognisable. I think it fits me well. It has the same number of letters as my given name & also starts with the same letter.

I really like it but in reality I don’t care what name I’m summoned by, it’s just another arbitrary label.

    Hello Girls,
I chose Lyndal as it is close to my real male name of Lionel and sounds very similar. I figured that as there is not much difference in sound between the two I would always know if someone was talking to me in either fem or Male mode.
    Lyndal xxxxxxx

I was chatting online many years ago when I was asked my Fem name. As I didn’t have one then, I looked around me for some clues, then I spotted the street signs outside the units where I used to live, they were Amanda St and William St, from then on I have only used Amanda Williams as my Fem name.
I am comfortable with this name and have not needed to change it for any reason.

When my mother was carrying me she was convinced I was a girl and was so named, Daphne. It was a huge disappointment when out popped a boy. My hastilly chosen male name, Ellis is not bad. An American name and often used by women, (I’ve met a few female Ellis’s) didn’t gel for me. Many years ago when I required a femme name for NSW Seahorse, I chose Elizabeth, a good solid name (think of the Queen). A bit of a mouthful so Liz has stuck. The initial is good for credit cards etc. I’ve been Liz for so long, Liz is now me. Daphne was a bloody awful name anyway and would have been changed by me! Then I think of Daphne Du Maurier and her wonderful novels who originated from my home county in Britain, a smart lady, so maybe, just maybe.

    Liz

It was easy. My initials are DB & close friends sometimes call me that. So it provided those who learned of my transgender status with a not so enormous psychological leap of calling DB Debbie. Debbie was also the name of my first 4yo crush so it sits fondly with me.
