Personally I am reluctant to let TR spread into the Health area.
My reasons
a. I believe that (with the major exception of discussion about HRT and M2F surgery) – the health issues we face are NOT substantially different from the general population.b There are many many other web site/forums out there presenting opinions and facts about health issues.
c. There is an inadequate critical audience in TR on medical issues to ensure that the validity of medical assertions is challenged. For proof of this look at how the dreams of drinking some herb making breasts grow continually surfaces and is not challenged.
d. I want to see TR develop further as a source of valid information about being Trans* – and not as an archive of unvalidated assertions.
Success of a venture like TR is linked to doing what we do better – not trying to do everything.
And so I think it is for the general benefit of TR to put some bounds on what topics are created in the TR forums. My preference is that all postings should have some direct connection to being transgender either as an individual or as a community.
I will probably move this thread to somewhere like “Improving TR” if the discussion develops…..

On three occasions i’ve used Shavonne (on-line) for purchasing size 11 and 12 rings. They have a wide range and the quality is excellent (i.e. the gold doesn’t rub off straight away!)

I guess there is often a difference between how many wigs we own – and how many we wear!
Well there is with me .A favourite wig does eventually start to look ratty and sometimes a purchase that looks good in the photo or shop doesn’t really suit us.
So I’ll own up to wearing 3 – my favourite every-day one, one for the beach and cooking (both destroy wigs!), and one for a different look sometimes in the evening.
I own 5 but the other two are dusters.

Jeanie,
Thanks for the feedback on my article – it is the only way I can find out if my observations are valid or not. I’m not sure what I can suggest to avoid walking into the wrong toilet – its an occupational hazard!

Quote:Hi Amanda,
I notice that an event will only be posted in the forum section if it is a TR organised event. That is not the intent – bugs notwithstanding it should be possible to request that any event in the calendar is also posted in the forums. If what you mean is that you can’t publish in the forums without raising an event in our calendar (not strictly TR organised events?) then that was a deliberate change. The spam in the old forums was taking far to much time to keep in control.
If you mean that you have to be a TR member to put an event in the calendar/forums then that is a long standing policy that might underpin some of the success of the group. Some brief experiments with public/open posting in forums showed that it generates little of quality and lots of work for moderators. So whilst I would like the calendar to be used for all significant tranny friendly events in AUS/NZ I accept it will only be used for events that some TR member hears about.
Quote:In my case, I know this sounds like me wanting to promote the Taxi Club venue, for the girls, and I know that TR is not strictly a part of that…in a sense…Too true – but it is a grey area. If you were advertising some commercial product or service you would be out of line….but it is the Taxi Club! On the other hand if you were to flood the TR calendar and worse the forums with Taxi posts then I would have to restrict things a bit. After all TR is a national network and not a NSW one. I don’t want the WA girls to think the site is being taken over by Sydney!

have you tried the standard forum search (Search) at the top of the screen?
search.phpOr is there something different you want the search to do?
Cheers

I have split the discussion about the relevance of same sex marriage to our community to a new topic. As it was not discussing the original article.

Well it has been a long time coming – but at last we have broken through the 550 member ceiling. We have been close for 6 months or so – but just when it looked as if we would make it a batch of memberships lapsed and we were back to 540 again.Back in August 2007 I wote
Today we welcomed our newest member to Tranny Radio,
Ebbeny – Member 3462. Ebbeny brings the active membership of the group to 500.It is now July 2009 and this month we went clear through the 600 member mark.
Well done Tranny Radio! That is 600 active members of the group – and we welcomed the last 50 in just 6 months (compared to 16 months for the previous 50).
Actually gained close on 90 new girls in the last 6 months but I continue the policy of deleting the profile of girls who do not log in or read their emails. So it is more a case of 90 steps forward and 40 back.It is gratifying to see this positive demonstration of support in the community for the web site; and I hope everyone continues to find it a useful and vibrant resource. Ifyou have any suggestions for improvements – just email me or post on the forums.
Now is anyone making bets on how long till we hit the 700 mark?

Dudes who dress as chicks and want to become (or have become) chicks.
Hex
I’m always a bit suspicious when I’m given just two options to choose from.
In an article I wrote recently (which I’ll publish in full here one day) I proposed three stages that our transgender journey might pass through…
[ul]
Seeking to dress as a woman;
Seeking to be accepted as a woman; and
Seeking to be legally a woman.
[/ul]
The first stage, “seeking to dress as a woman”, occurs in private or may be facilitated by a support group. This is where girls learn about fashion, makeup, and the practicalities of dressing. Whilst they may go out in public they do so expecting to be ‘read’. At this stage ‘girls’ are mainly seeking self-gratification or acceptance of their cross dressing by others – maybe a partner. The second stage, “seeking to be accepted as a woman”, is of necessity a public activity. Girls seek validation of their femininity in restaurants, clubs, or perhaps the local supermarket. Looking for acceptance as a woman means that the deficiencies of their body now become a concern, and with that comes experimentation with herbal remedies, hair removal, hormones, voice training and maybe cosmetic surgery. In this stage girls are looking more for acceptance as a woman by the general public.
In the third stage, “seeking to be legally a woman”, girls no longer validate themselves against the perceptions of others, but to seek to completely reconcile their sex and legal status with their true gender.
In stage girls are seeking a legal status as a woman in society.I did a quick sample of TR members and I guess that
[ul]60% are somewhere in the first stage
33% are “seeking to be accepted as a woman” , and
7% are “seeking to be legally a woman”[/ul]
As to names for the stages – I wouldn’t go there – let alone put anyone in a box.As many know I prefer to use Transgender to cover the entire spectrum.
And I object strongly to the use of the “Trans” label because
a) it is trendy
b) no one outside the community has the foggiest idea what it is
c) it is an abuse of the English language!Flame away – but remember
a) I am the webmistress and
b) everyone when they applied told me why they consider themselves transgender! 😆 -

It isn’t funny enough to go in Fun Stuff !! -
:OH
As Virginia confessed – this is going way off topic.
And it isn’t particularly funny for a forum called fun stuff…
Unless of course you enjoy seeing how far off topic you can go before the moderator wakes up!So future posts on this thread must address the original post…
or I’ll have to take immoderate moderator action! -

NY Man Charged With Impersonating Dead Mother
Prosecutors: NY Man Dressed up as Dead Mom in Scheme to Collect Government Benefits
By TOM HAYS
The Associated PressNEW YORK
Irene Prusik has been dead for six years. But in April, someone showed up at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Brooklyn to renew her driver’s license. The explanation given by prosecutors rivals the Hitchcock classic “Psycho”: It was her son, in drag.
Thomas Parkin, 49, was charged Wednesday in the bizarre plot to impersonate his deceased mother so he could collect $117,000 in government benefits. He and the man accused of being his accomplice, Mhilton Rimolo, pleaded not guilty to grand larceny, criminal impersonation and other charges.
Both men were ordered held on $1 million bail. Their lawyers did not immediately respond to phone messages left on Wednesday.
District Attorney Charles Hynes said the scam was “unparalleled in its scope and brazenness.”
Authorities claim that following his arrest, Parkin told them that because he held Prusik when she breathed her last breath, “I am my mother.”
Parkin, who lived with his mother, was accused of hatching the scheme after she passed away in 2003 at age 73. He managed to conceal the death by falsifying her death certificate, then collected $52,000 from her $700-a-month Social Security checks over the next six years, prosecutors said.
Authorities say Parkin also got another $65,000 in rent subsidies by falsely claiming he had a disability and that his mother was still alive and was his landlord.
Parkin used his friend Rimolo to pose as the mother’s nephew when going to cash checks and do other business, prosecutors said. A security camera photo from the DMV office shows a frail-looking Parkin in a wig and dark glasses, Rimolo by his side, as he fills out paperwork.
The ruse began to unravel amid a dispute over the mother’s home, which was sold at foreclosure in 2003. Parkin challenged the purchase by suing the new owner on his mother’s behalf so he wouldn’t be evicted.
As the property dispute dragged out, both sides eventually contacted the district attorney to accuse each other of fraud. By the time investigators arranged a meeting with the family in May, they already had proof Prusik was dead: a photo of her tombstone in a local cemetery.
The investigators played along as Parkin showed up for the interview “wearing a red cardigan, lipstick, manicured nails and breathing through an oxygen tank,” prosecutors said.

Member16/06/2009 at 7:46 am in reply to: NSW Transfusion ’09 – the venue search begins here!Penny,
Unless I have missed something whilst on holidays – I think the issue with Transfusion may be more identifying ” the people that are trying to set up the event ” than the details. My understanding is that the requirements for the event are pretty well established but that is where things have stopped.
Our community is very short on people who have a track record of going the whole distance organising events. And that is what it takes – the commitment to be both at the ideas stage and clearing up after the event.
Their names are familiar to most girls here in NSW.Sorry to sound negative, but it seems the potential event will have to get a lot closer before a quorum of girls are motivated/cajoled into actually doing the leg work. Maybe after the Seahorse Ball some momentum may be generated…..maybe….
Of course I will be there helping….and I know you want to be involved.. but who else is prepared to run the entire course?

The premier member photo albums and avatar uploading have been re-enabled after the move.
This means that the transfer of the web site from the USA to Sydney has been completed.

The DNS servers have been switched and now trannyradio is being hosted in Sydney. There are a few small bugs I have noticed but in general itall seems to be up and running again.
I’ll enable the profile pictures when I have a chance to check out the functionality ….
