Thanks Martina. I’ve watched the first 6 parts and found them fascinating. Jo Ann and some of the others looked fantastic but talk about a parade of old fashioned fashions and old fashioned attitudes. We really have come a long way.

I’ve tried chat rooms before but I was a miserable failure. My one and a half finger typing was so slow that I was answering a question that was two pages previous by the time I sent my thoughts. Private messages where I have time to send a considered response are much more my style of “chatting”.

For those who didn’t see it, SBS included a great segment in their summary of the parade –

I watched the entire SBS broadcast of the Mardi Gras Parade and there was a brief segment on TG, but if you’d blinked you’d have missed it. To be fair given the huge preponderance of LGB floats and issues I can’t blame SBS.
For me the good news in the last year or so is that virtually all activists and official statements talk about LGBTIQ. I’m not too proud to take a hand up from the letters that represent more participants.

I don’t know Martina but the main message I took was that this was another plain positive story with not a smidgeon of shock horror in it and that has to be good. It was also in today’s Good Weekend magazine.

Thanks for the heads up Claire. It’s also repeating at 5.30pm today (Saturday) on ABC News 24.

I agree Claire. I’m just about to re-watch Dallas Buyers Club, another movie where a cis gendered male brilliantly portrays a transwoman. Thinking about “Transparent” previously where the lead is a male playing a transwoman but transwomen and a transman play supporting roles I decided it was horses for courses. If you want to cast the role of the early stages of transition, a woman or a transwoman just doesn’t fit. A male actor looks far more realistic struggling to build the new look. The transwomen actors really shone as the well transitioned (trans)women.

Interesting. My latest purchases from my friendly local Australian pharmacy with the benefit of a prescription were:
    Finasteride (5mg)x 30 $34
    Sandrena (1g)x28 $14

Adjusting for the larger finasteride pill I think that makes the local prescription purchase bang for buck about half the cost of the imported version. Another reason to talk to your GP.

Advice I received from a speech therapist a while back was very similar to Salleyj’s contribution. I’m saving up my pennies for voice training instead of surgery.

I have been taking prescribed Propecia (1mg finasteride) for about 4 years now and have nice small boobs with which I am very happy.
Proscar (5mg finasteride)is designed for prostate problems and will also help with boob growth, however will result in a marked reduction in sexual potency.
Better to take the slow option and also use an estrogen gel or patch as this will be less damaging to health than taking pills or using injections.
Refer to the TransgenderCare website, Medical Feminising Program.
The Inhouse Pharmacy supply medicines at resonable prices and are very reliable.

To have somewhere to go and dress how I want to – I’ll never pass as a woman, not into jewellery & make up, I just like wearing some of the clothes. Somewhere to go to and dress how I want and no-one will mind.
