I understand the losses quite well I have been on this road for 4 years now and have felt all your pressures , the difference being we have 4 adult kids and 10 grand kids , I think it’s harder the later you transition , the ripple effect gets bigger and bigger, however I too live in hope that Lyn and I will be able to stay the course, that sensible acceptance and fairness will emerge in society , and that we in the village will be kinder and more generous to each other as well, I haven’t been able to find a better answer, in the end if you have offered your SO the opportunity for individual counselling, and she wishes to stay with you, celebrate and work together to help others that are staying together too. We have been tested on one hand and blessed on the other, I believe that my new perspective has made me a better human and am sure that many others would say the same thing, head up, trust yourself and go forward. -

Always insightful , point well made the movie world and media will always search for the shock factor, not interested in the nicer side of life it doesn’t sell! -
A wonderful help to confidence as I step out to work for the first time as Kathy on Wensday morning, thanks Amanda

Hear Hear Amanda I am right behind you with your comments, we need to treat everyone everywhere with care and respect it’s good that there is diversity of opinion and even better to respect others rights to have them.
The other important component is the capacity to work democratically in all facets of human interaction and endeavor .
The concept of “do unto others as you would have them do to you” is a model that is important for us all. -
Great Discussion
So long as we keep animosity out, use the discussion to consider our personal position and choose to act on it if we are of the belief that there needs to be a change to the Australian lexicon. In my view the matter is worth continuing discussion, and, in the end if we as a body of Transgendered folk choose to unite instead of creating splinter groups that too often attack each other we need to enter the world of social politics and start to communicate with both the Media and “other folk”.

Wonderful thread to read, yes we are all different, Yes in my view we should till the soil of the future just a little for it will be with us soon enough!
The subject of retirement villages and nursing homes is very relevant, in Australia as in many parts of the world we are facing an “avalanche” of aged baby boomers for which the Government and the industry is not well prepared or resourced for! We should be pro active in this political space if we are in the age profile! Speaking of age profile maybee we should have a “mature Girls” section in TgR. Keep smiling all -
I agree with many aspects discussed by those above, to be a good human you should have, display many attributes, caring, and emotional reactions being several of the many.
However Clare’s suggestion that in many ways the clothing, make up and hair, are less important than the Internal expression of the commonly feminine characteristics of compassion, empathy, crying, etc, rings true with me. Clothes alone do not make either the man or woman.

Thanks Amanda, an important read for many of us, the tide is slowly moving towards understanding and acceptance it seems.

Mercedes Allan’s discussion paper is a very thought provoking and worthwhile read, for me the crux is:” Part of this will require us to stop making assumptions about everyone else and start listening to how they define who they are, what they need and what their life experiences mean. Which means to stop assuming that everyone who isn’t exactly like us should be dismissed as “not real.” And means to stop assuming that third-sex or third-gender identification is any less valid than binary identification or that accommodation of both is irreconcilable.”
Of course the problem of a commonly accepted defining descriptor is as hard to find as unity itself, for that in my view is that which I am trying to strive for.
Let the goodwill and discussion thrive.

I continue to support the concept while understanding the need for a “Interest Factor” the discussion re links is more technical than I fully understand however the “flicca” concept sounds reasonable.
The more that TGR can “Value add” to our members (some of whom are quite isolated by many factors) the better the community support is. -
I believe that the idea is worth trying, it has the potential for value adding over and above the “Day to day friendly chat” that is part of our sharing.
The potential for inter-organisational communication is good in my view however there are pointers from the vicliaison experience that indicate to me that a fair bit of relationship development is likely to be required.
A calender of events say 1 to 3 months would seem like a good concept to me.
Perhaps the concept may also be considered in the potential TGR survey

Good luck on your journey, I dont think I am able to transition at work at present but I wish that I could! Our HR policy is in rewrite at present.

I have read all comments to date, and note and agree with the various positions taken, I recognise instantly my distaste for the TG implications and then I saw that in fact the add denegrates men with tats etc as well.
I believe that adds that denegrate any section of the community are somewhat evil as they are corrosive to good community relations between all sections of the community, we already have too much tribalism, we need to push forward into a new paradigm of tolerance for legal, non destructive, peacefull behaviors that are simply a reflection of an individuals perspective.
So to me the add and its production philosophy are both bad, distasteful and destructive, a style that we do not need in a reasonable society.
