Firstly here is the link for the actual 30 second commercial
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lReX1dAUAE
Members should perhaps view it and come to their own thoughts about the commercial.
I will share my thoughts:
This is how I viewed it – I saw a drag queen enter the powder room and she is, with her over enthusiastic make up touch up presumably saying she is prettier than the person on camera right. The person on the right counters this by offering a libra tampon – basically saying I am the genuine article. The commercial tag line is “Libra gets girls”.
Libra has a history of making amusing commercials and this is one in a series.
1. I found the fact that a drag queen entering a presumably ladies powder room and being accepted a good portrayal. It showed that this was not a big deal.
2. A drag Queen by definition is a male performer over dressing as a female (and sometimes actually by doing so being offensive to some woman). However in this commercial the drag queen is accepted and it is only her over zealousness that perhaps causes the other person to offer the libra product.
3. In my opinion I see no offense being made to Drag Queens.
4. Why this is even a topic of concern in the gender diverse community escapes me actually.

Member10/11/2011 at 9:14 pm in reply to: ‘My Transexual Summer- UK Channel 4 – New Series SlatedRe: My Transsexual Summer Channel 4 (UK) TV Documentary Series
4 episodes of this series have been broadcast. It features on 7 trans people meet up weekly in a large country house for a series of weekends (over 3 months) and share their experiences. The program then follows one person for the rest of the week.
There are a variety of people from the trans community included and they are at various stages (from having SRS) to being out only 3 months. There are F 2 M and M 2 F in the group.
The series is perhaps better than some one off ‘documentaries’ that have been produced previously. Most of these previous ‘documentaries’ I have seen have featured more on partners issues and perhaps fetish dressing than people who are serious about perhaps transitioning. In this way this series is covering perhaps some, up to now, not covered ground.
While many members may not find anything too new in the series, perhaps it is important for the wider (non trans community) to be able to see more than fetish dressing and hiding in the closet. It shows what the people featured are going through as human beings.
One thing that is somewhat surprising is that the people selected did/do not seem to have much of a support group in place, whether in real life or on the Internet. Of course very few TV programs are 100% ‘real’ so obviously to make the series more interesting to viewers, perhaps people were deliberately selected who had had little support.
The internet is a great support system especially for people transitioning – not just for basic information but for sharing experiences etc. This fact has not been shown much in the TV Series.
The people selected may not include the whole variety of types of trans people in the community but with 7 it perhaps is not a bad selection. Members have no doubt met personally many types of people in real life as shown on the TV Series.
The series can be viewed on the Channel 4 website, and I am sure there are torrents around too if members wish to do a search. Members can also give comments and feedback directly to the people featured in the Series at the same site.

Getting custom maid (pun intended) might be difficult.
Ready-made can be found at many websites, here is one -

The EMLA cream is supposed to assist with numbing the area, although, for me the process was, – on a pain level from 0 (no pain) to 10 (most pain ever experienced) – the IPL sessions were a 2 for face. But of course everyone’s pain threshold is different.
If the IPL level is high what you might experience afterwards is a like sunburn aftereffect. The usual topical lotions can help with recovery. Also a soft cold pack can help (I kept one in my car in an ice box).
For me any redness only lasted a few hours and was totally cover able with make up, so but the next day you should be back to normal skin color.

I know this may be off topic, but if members are interested here is the text of a speech about Pip made on Mar 28 2009. It may be of interest for those who did not know her that well.

While the new changes are of course welcome, I do wonder what may happen when traveling to a country that perhaps questions the validity of the passport. For example if a body search is done for other reasons and what is written on the passport for Sex is different from physical sex.
Could the authorities then think that the passport was a fake or forgery which could cause the traveler perhaps potential problems? If the Australian Embassy in the country was contacted no doubt it would be sorted out quickly but with public holidays and weekends who would want to be in that situation for even a day?
It may be wise to also keep a certified copy of the Health Professionals letter (used when applying for a passport under the new rules) with the passport so it could be shown in these circumstances.

Cooperation: Could start with the postings of other Organizations events to their own respective members – I know TgR does this for other groups now, but having it reciprocal might be a first step.
How this would benefit the Community – Well many groups members here in Queensland seem not to access the internet – so having events published in a hard copy Newsletter would inform those members of firstly the existence of TgR and the possibly of meeting up in real and communicating with new people other than their own organizations members.
How would this affect TgR – this is a tricky one – Perhaps there is not much benefit for TgR in general, so its more of a community service (like the Events Calendar we have now)There has been talk of perhaps exploring the possibility of allowing members from one group to attend events of another group, when in that town. This becomes tricky with TgR as anyone can apply to come to events already, so its not for TgR but rather for say a member of a QLD group when visiting a different area being able to attend a local groups event. The difficulties here are – confirming the person is a member of ‘said’ group I guess. This is something the groups would have to work out. Except for those organizations that have ‘secret’ meetings however the case maybe moot as many other groups allow non members attend events already…

Hair can be very stubborn. I have lost count how many times each section has needed to be treated for me, but as I am only doing facial hair and it has so far taken over 270 hours you can imagine it is many many times for me.
Each time the hair becomes weaker and eventually dies – this is the process.
For me taking or not taking hormones has played no part in facial hair reduction. As you know hormones do not affect facial hair growth at all (unfortunately). What hormones did for me was to make my skin more sensitive and therefore the electrolysis procedure more painful. That is why I suggest members start electrolysis before starting hormones if they can.
Facial hair removal can be a long process (I have been doing it for 4 years….)

As to possible Topics, well some of the most viewed forum posts are mainly all to do with temporary body modifications. Perhaps something along these lines might be some possible first topics?
-
I think the idea of a chat room Topic announced ahead of time and perhaps held in a separate room is a good idea. Perhaps ‘webcast’ is not the best name as that implies media being distributed one way over the web whereas this would be an interactive discussion topic.
I put my hand up for moderating.
I think though a start time and end time should be also be announced.
I agree a summery of the chats main points could be posted in the forums (if all attendees agree) afterwords. A summery is usually better as I find many chats that are copied and pasted sometimes become very long and many people just don’t read through them.

I had a year (12) seasons of Light Pulse procedures which had little effect then I started on 4 years of electrolysis.
The electrolysis procedures were done at
Sima’s Beauty & Electrolysis Center
Ella Bache Beauty and Electrolysis (Blend & Thermo)
http://www.simas.com.au/
Brisbane QLDMay 20 2010 entry…
Well at nearly 250 hours of facial electrolysis and after nearly 3 years, I can say I think there is some perceived hair reduction. When I started this I had read it can take up to 300 hours and well that is what it seems to have been for me. As readers will know before electrolysis I tried IPL, SIPL and ELOS high intensity light treatments for a year (12 sessions). These treatments were not effective for me.
The facial hair removal can be the single most costly procedure that trans people go through and this is true for me. I often get asked about the cost and of course this depends on the cost of the clinic you attend. But in my case it is this:
$2.50 / min = $150/ hour x 250 hours = AUD$37,500
To put this in perspective all of my surgical expenses (including International airfares, accommodation meals etc.) was AUD$45,000
Also having electrolysis does cramp your lifestyle as you have to be ‘furry’ for the technician to have a hair to pull out after zapping. For me this meant not being able to go out 3 days a week prior to the procedure. After 3 years this becomes a bit tiresome.
All I can say is if you are considering a lot of electrolysis is to start saving and keep your job.
If you have stubborn hair it may be viable to buy a machine (about $2000) and pay for the training of an operator give it to them and let them start their own business in place for free treatments for you. I am not joking!
Each hair may need to be be zapped many many times, before they die – this is what takes the time. Everyone is different of course, all I am relating is my personal experience.
Pain> everyone is different but if pain is an issue then a topical gel might help. I found the locally available EMLA cream expensive and non effective for me. I imported a gel that requires no clear film over it from Florida USA http://www.greencaine.com

In regard to razors: I still think a non electric razor will give a closer better result as the cutting blades are not inhibited by anything.
