I went to a professional (theatrical – TV) makeup artist.
My feeling is that this is a good choice and people in this profession are experienced in all types of make up, making anyone looks like anyone. Whereas stores selling makeup are not so experienced.
A make up artist in Brisbane will give a makeup lesson and explain and give an educational experience on how to use them. Perhaps if you are not in Brisbane search out someone similar in your home town.
He also has a DVD video for sale which may be of interest.
His website is here

I thought it opportune especially and there is ongoing posts elsewhere in the forums about the portrayal of Gender Diverse people in Dramatic TV Productions. Link below

*ON BEHALF OF

Dear Family of Healthy Communities
In the week since the announcement that Healthy Communities will no longer receive any funding for all of our funding for its HIV, STI and Hepatitis C prevention work with gay men in Queensland (for reasons that are not based on fact or review) along with the LGBT Awareness Training Program and LGBT ATODS Project being defunded, it’s nice to have some good news about all of the support and fundraising activities supporting us and report on the response from our community.
Since Sunday we’ve received over $3400 in donations with many coming from interstate and some even coming from overseas! We’re very grateful and this will help fund our fight to remain an important service for the community, but we know that this won’t be enough to continue in our present capacity. You can help by donating at http://www.qahc.org.au/donation
Rally
You will want to be a part of this! It is going to go down in history! Equal Love are organising a rally to start at 5pm in King George Square and we will then march around 6pm to Parliament House where we’ll arrive by 6:30pm. So join us on the way when you finish work. They are giving us half their donations and we’ll also be there collecting donations too.
The rally will make an impact with a massive number expected to turn out for a peaceful protest (we’re hearing in the thousands). There will be a silent candlelight vigil to remember those we have lost to AIDS and commemorate the fight against HIV that our community initiated in Queensland 28 years ago. This action will celebrate those that have fought along the way and stand for the prevention efforts with gay men that should continue. The vigil will also symbolise those we have lost to suicide, and drugs and alcohol and send a loud message with its silence. Download the candle app and make sure your phone is charged or bring your own candles and we’ll have some to share too!
If you haven’t yet joined the thousands who have signed the petition, help us create a call they can’t ignore at PETITION LINK
We’ve had feedback that many of our supporters have taken a few minutes to write to their MPs. If your views haven’t been heard yet, it’s important politicians hear that the health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders, including a community-based approach to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender health and HIV prevention is important to you. Their contact information is here http://www.qahc.org.au/actions
A lot of people who have written to their MPs have contacted us to let us know that they have received the same form response which unfortunately contains some serious errors and inaccuracies.
For other information please check out website http://www.qahc.org.au join our event.
If you could help further by sharing this issue with all of your friends and loved ones and ask them to support in whatever way they can too, it would be greatly appreciated.
Everyone at Healthy Communities would like to give heartfelt thanks for the tremendous support that we have received. You have given us strength during this crisis. With your support we will go on and we will keep fighting for the best health and wellbeing outcomes for all of Queensland’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. If you have any further ideas or events that will help us in this fight please contact Jason Russo on 07 3017 1728 or email jrusso@qahc.org.au
Thank you for your support

While it would be interesting to see some perhaps long shots of the formal, band etc. for non attendees like me, I certainly understand the reasons behind not being allowed to do so.
Once a person is outed there is no turning back. Instead of being known as [name], the person is often known as ‘the tranne’, or whatever. It is the persons choice whether they choose to tell people or not. Keeping photos taken at the event only available to attendees leaves this choice to the people who attended – as it should be in my opinion.
As I understand it is for similar reasons that the Voluntary TF Attendees Survey Results are also for Attendees eyes only.

It is my understanding that the surgery IS subsidized currently by Medicare, as the surgery costs around $40,000 for non Medicare clients in Melbourne. (Out of pocket expenses for Medicare clients being currently about $10.000). One way to even have this covered seems to be to join the Defence Force.
Actually if one is transitioning SRS may not be the greatest expense as Facial surgery and accompanied Facial Hair removal can be many times this $10,000 figure.

I know its a bit further to travel but you may wish to check out this site in Brisbane http://rawdon.net63.net/
Also a DVD ‘Makeup Demystified’ is available which may be handy before you make the trip to Brisbane.

I think this issue is under state law – so it may vary from state to state. In the State of Queensland, I understand people MUST use the toilet of the gender they are presenting as. This is for personal safety and (as I understand) is due to the work of http://atsaq.com
This is for public toilets. Toilets in private shopping centers may follow this or not.
As Amanda has mentioned – go in do your business wash your hands and go out I suggest. Don’t linger as that could be mistaken for other purposes.
((Although the recent Libra TV Commercial suggests people are more open minded *smiles* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmKTnKFzKlU ))
Having said that I had no issues (even in the early stages), and yes I used a toilet at McDonalds in Sydney pre-transision in Aug 2006 *smiles*.

Dermabrasion is another procedure available for skin smoothing. I found it helpful in reducing the effects of much electrolysis and the bumps and craters that that can produce. Major Dermabrasion might be a better name.
The procedure is done with local anesthetic and some layers of the skin are literary ground away with a small mechanical grinder. This give the effect similar to a gravel rash from falling off a pedal bike.
Bandages are required for 1 week while the new skin forms. I wore a medical mask during this time over the bandages.
The new skin is pink and has to be protected from the sun for some time.
The Results? I was happy as the effects of the skin damage were reduced and the new skin was smoother. Cost was $1,000 for this one time procedure.
I just offer my experience here as some information on another procedure available for skin smoothing.
More details about the procedure and where I chose to have it performed are on this pdf (130KB) http://www.host-a.net/u/bambi/DermabrasionYoskarnClinic.pdf

I just welcome the day when a gender diverse person is selected for an interview topic about anything else than just the fact they are a gender diverse person.
The Gay community is very seldom interviewed just because they are gay…anymore. Lets hope with greater education the Gender Diverse community will have a similar outcome soon.

This is how I understand the situation currently in Australia: The federal Government does not recognize same sex marriages and all the legal implications that a marriage has.
What does this mean for Gender Diverse people?
Currently (except for Australian Passport Applications) the Australian government determines sex by genitalia in most cases. Basically it is what is written on a birth certificate. So if 2 people have different sex listed on their birth certificates, they can become married, if not, they cannot. The situation comes up for Gender Diverse people in where when a legally married couple, one transitions including all the surgeries. Currently that person cannot change their birth certificate if they are married, as that would be then a ‘same sex marriage’.
Australia is so backward in recognizing same sex marriages: Many very religious countries, like Argentina, Brazil already do.
By not recognizing same sex marriage, and all the legal implications, The Australian Government discriminates.

Chrissie: Maybe try the micro-dermabrasion first as I am sure the results you get from that will be real. With the Beauty Regime by Adobé you may find the results unreal

Actually I had dermabrasion (read major dermabrasion) and I found it helped remove the pocketing and craters formed by electrolysis. Although this required bandages for a week and even longer with a face mask as new skin had to form.
Good Luck!

As you know doubt have read weight loss cannot be controlled to one area of the body it occurs all over. What I did to loose 12kg and not build up muscle, was half sit-ups each morning on the floor. I started at say 5 then slowly worked my way up to about 60 a time.
I also reduced my consumption; no alcohol, no snacks (no chocos, no fast food, no carbonated drinks). I replaced snacks with fruit like apples. I ate smaller portions at meals.
My weight loss was slow (about 100g a week) so it took about 8 months to reach my target goal.
All the best for your weight loss.

Clare:
Utility and communications bills in addition to the mailing address will usually also have the customers physical address on them – look carefully. Also as you pay rent to Alice – ask her to make up an invoice with all the required documentation is another possibility. All is required is something with your name and your residential address on it, that shows you have been at that address for 3 months etc. You could also use the bill from Australian Post for the PO box as that will have your physical address on it too.
