Hi all, and especially Jessica, I too have not been out and about enough, but I will never forget the first time. it was like an electric light being switched on. I remember every detail about my date’s car, and every detail of the journey. I was hyper-ware (everyone, just everyone was looking at me) on our way to the party, and super-relaxed about it all on the way back (er, no they’re not, they all have their own fish to fry). It was addictive.

Thanks again for razing it Jessica

Interesting comment Suzzzyy, especially the last part about constricting clothing; bet that rang a few bells

Hi all, this is one of those questions that not only generates different answers, but different kinds of answers. There are answers that link one’s whole moral framework and belief system to cross-dressing/androgyny/trans lifestyle (i.e. it talks about all the “its” we do, and positions transgender behaviour, as one of the “its”, albeit a really important one; in fact in some people is the organising principle for all the other “its”). On the other hand there are answers that focus on what it about cross-dressing/being transgender that explains why we do “it”. So we have to be ready to accept that, not only do we have a range of reasons for our behaviour (in my case it’s my female persona who needs, nay demands, her time in the sun), but we also may have very different levels/kinds of reasons, and these indicate that different groups of tg people define their behaviour differently; they are not talking about the same “it”. This can make it very easy to talk past each other, if not on this topic, then on others which do assume we are all talking about the same “it”, when we are not.

Hi all, I have tried to upload a fantastic article “Why Autocrats fear LGBT rights” but it’s too big for this forum. I have therefore included the URL of the original and it comes from a source (New York Review of Books) that permits downloading and printing of specific articles, including this one.

    * A 5 year old called “Sissy” (she’s a ex-breeding brindle greyhound, with the coolest demeanor). Utterly unflappable, really affectionate but does not play well with possums
    * A new leather corset and a beautiful off the shoulder body-suit; gifts from my boyfriend . No, he’s not really a ‘boy’ and he’s definitely more than a friend, but I don’t know what else to say
    * The steady drip, drip, drip of evidence exposing the “conspiracy of dunces” (Ross Douhat)
    * Like others, a sunny winter’s day; feeling the warmth on your face and legs (and, believe me, in Melbourne, this is not a trivial issue)
    * The slowly increasing normalisation of transgender issues in the broadcast media, and resis
    * You people, us, we

    “resis’= resistance

  • Hi Madeline, what a heartfelt and positive response. All the best with your transition.

Well, in theory, I couldn’t agree more (even though I think you said that with tongue firmly in cheek), and we’ve let it in already via that aforementioned member of the NSW upper house (a professional politician and activist par excellence). It’s as ‘political’ as hell (and ‘Political’ too). Must not preach, must be more laid back (note to self :) )

    Emma,

You need to make your story more inclusive; who are the analogues of the baddies in the Emma Batverse. Who’s your Joker, your Penguin (Fred Nile?) etc etc

That’s what I mean by ‘flawless confidence” Emma.

Marvelous piece Emma, one could position vulnerability (e.g. when a car stops near you on a dark street) as a consequence of what the outfit says in he broadest sense; it’s a “f** you”to the norms of he prejudiced. the confused and the fearful (of the effect this sexually ambiguous person has on them), and it’s is deliberately designed to induce a state of “femininity” (high heels, tight skirts, make-up) all of which add up to restricted movement, small steps, high visibility (the clothes); under certain conditions you can become a target, sooo you’ve gotta have flawless confidence backed by true capability (Emma comes to mind), and/or go out in groups, go to safe places, etc. etc. or stay at home and take selfies, Hope this wasn’t too much of a rave.

  • Great exchange of views here ladies. All technology cuts both ways, some stuff gets better, and easier but there is always a “but”, and the “but” with the internet is becoming clearer every day. Back in the ’70s I was part of a group looking at Australia’s futures, and the target date was 2000. I was responsible for the social futures chapter of our final report and there is one quote I used that I reckon is one of the most prescient I have ever encountered:
“Alone in a centrally heated air-conditioned capsule, drugged and fed with music and erotic imagery, the parts of his consciousness separated into components that reach everywhere and nowhere, the private citizen of the future will have become one with end of effort and the triumph of sensation divorced from action”. It’s from a book entitled “The Private Future” written by Desmond Pawley in, wait for it, 1973.

All the best, and right on to both of you

That’s a really challenging speculation Claire. I’ve had the same thought a few times; “what if the internet had been round ………”. I rationalise my way out of that iftory vortex by thinking; ‘well, what would I have given up at the time in order to have the time to follow my cross dressing dreams to the extent that I now do, at a much older age?’

Moderator: Can we please stick with Emma’s excellent topic and not wander off into a somewhat unrelated speculation. By all means start a new thread to discuss what if the internet was oval….

  • Hi Emma; only just read this honey. Up until now had only read your Part 1 and 2 posts. This a really positive and useful piece m’dear. This part really resonated with me: “I was so starved of cd companionship when I was a younger woman I couldn’t wait to meet others in real life and it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders when I did. Everyone I know has felt the same.” Yes indeed, the weight just disappears. Somehow, you breath a little easier.

Thanks Glenda – it certainly makes sense. Especially in so far as ‘vealers’ are immature and dependent.
