Not taking HRT for my surgeries I noticed no ‘mood’ changes at all. However I did notice the effects of hot flushes – which are bearable but just inconvenient. (Lasting like 10 minutes at time) As I was in a 36°C environment I may have felt this more than perhaps if being in a conditioned environment.

Of course everyone is different, is taking different drugs for HRT so your experience may be differ – In any case I think it is all tolerable – well it was in my case.

I hope your recovery goes smoothly

When researching for the SRS operation you need not only research the actual surgeon and talk with actual patients and find out their outcomes, but also decide on the actual technique you wish to have.

Different techniques give different results – mainly that being of depth, position, sensitivity (feeling), and aesthetic (looks).

As I understand it the 2 surgeons in Australia both are doing the same technique. You have to decide if that is for you or not.

All I can say is research research research – talk to 1st hand patients – not third hand hearsay. Do be aware that some clients feel their surgeon is a type of god and therefore their views may not exactly balanced.

Do consider and ask questions about the aftercare- as I feel that is equally important.

You may find your research leads you to surgeons not in Australia and if that is so ask again as I am sure I and other members can give you more information about our experiences. (some seem to have already)

    Good luck with your research.

My comments on this ABC-TV original program are:

Firstly it’s good to see that ABC2-TV is actually making shows on this topic rather than rebroadcasting ones made by others. (The UK Ch4 2011 My Transsexual Summer series of 4 programs is currently being broadcast for the 3rd time at Sundays 9:30PM ABC2-TV)

Amanda has commented on things I was intending to, so I will only list my other ones.

I found it interesting that the program at first found it difficult to find people willing to go on camera here in Australia – I am not sure that is totally the case and whether perhaps better research would have had a different result. Although I can only comment for here in Queensland – other areas it may be different.

The story of 15 year old Riley showed what some kids and parents go through. Being a kid itself is hard enough so the extra ‘pressure?’ of being Gender Diverse must be tough. The attitude of her mother was telling – perhaps being slightly over protective and so different from the outgoing positive attitude of Gender Diverse kids shown in New York.

I understand the reason for the inclusion of the perhaps over long story of Racy and the roller derby – showing how difficult it can be to ‘fit-in’. But perhaps this could have been shown with the sometimes difficulty of job placement – a more important aspect perhaps.

I am not sure the Dr in Cairns added much to the story, although I have met similar people who seem to need to make sexual jokes every minute. So I guess it’s a valid sample of some of the community.

The overwhelming thing from most Australians interviewed for me was … their voice! So difficult but oh… so important to get right if people are wanting to blend in. Which is a choice for each person of course.

Who to tell? Is a good question, as once told you can never go back. While you can control who YOU tell, often who you have told will tell others and it becomes a snowball.

“Hey, did you hear about Fred…?”

Instead of being known as you, the person, you may become known firstly as you the Gender Diverse person – which may not be what you wish.

Topic of conversation with people you have told may be never endingly about Gender Diverse subjects – and you may find saying the same things many times becomes less enjoyable after a while.

You may find out that people you don’t even know, have been told by others – which could be disturbing.

My advise would be think carefully about all of this before announcing anything.

While a transcript would be nice, in reality just a report about the events (names can be withheld if required) would be informative for members who don’t attend, as well as being a promotion for a possible future event.

If it is text then the issues of photos does not come up – but again it’s easier to post photos than to sit down and write a report. It takes time and effort and a dedication. And of course most members attend to enjoy themselves not ‘work’.

PC Airlines and the people that work there was extensively covered in the 2012 BSkyB series “Ladyboys” (episode 6). Members may wish to view this documentary for an update.

I have ‘images not displayed’ as my default with my e-mail service (gmail) so I guess my opening of the digest mails is not being recorded in the data.

I seem to get the whole forum posts in digests – they are not truncated for me.

I understand its an automated system – its too bad the formatting (in some posts) like bold or color just displays as text in the digests and sometimes makes them difficult to read. For that reason I always place the formatting in my forum posts on a different line (Like this one)

The survey closes Friday Feb 15, 2013 so today is your last chance to answer it. You can however write a submission and the deadline for that is Feb 28th.

There is only 1 page of questions so I agree with Amanda-Adrian, please make your thoughts count, and perhaps lead to change with the Census.

If this does change, then other similar government forms may change as well. It is important your feelings are recoded.

    Fill it out now here

Although perhaps off topic a pdf in English about Thai Trangender Allliance (Thai TGA) and their goals is here

    http://www.transgenderasia.org/thai-tga-eng.pdf

Understandably their website is mainly in Thai.

UPDATE: IKEA [Thailand] have been reported to have contacted the Alliance by telephone and are said to be drafting a letter reply.

You may find some listings here that are not on your list…

    http://www.superliminal.com/melinda/tgmovies.htm

Also I would suggest including the UK produced BSkyB factual documentary 6 part series “Ladyboys” currently being rebroadcast by ABC2 in Australia

    <> – Chloe Jan 14 2013

I can only report on my experience (everyone is different) so here goes…

There has been much written about ‘how HRT changes the way one thinks” and other stuff. My experience is that nothing like that has happened – for me it was the slight physical changes is all.

A Psych also asked me a similar question and when I replied as above, she commented that it was her clients who were still in the closet (and taking HRT) that had reported ‘mind changing effects’, and her comment was that it was probably all just projected ‘feelings’ as the HRT was the only thing the client was doing (rather than living their life in their true gender).

I agreed with her. I feel all this stuff about HRT changing your mind etc well might be a lot of wishful thinking.

My advice would be not to worry about the things in your question at all. Aligning your physical shape to your true gender, I feel does not change you inside. You are still the same person. Now of course its what’s inside that counts, and if you are not sure about that then more consultations etc would be helpful to sort that out.

So what are some of the physical minor changes one can expect with HRT? In my experience in order of experience: Smother skin texture, better body odor, (about within 3 months of starting), small breast growth – say to an A size over 2 years. Reduced body hair, but this takes a long time , say over 3 years. Also if SRS is in the plan, HRT will prevent hot flushes, which are not life threatening, but on 35°C days can be tiresome. A reduction of muscle tissue over time was noticed.

So to answer your question: I have found taking HRT has had no effect at all on changing any ability or ‘drive’ for goals or for success. However as you know in Australia the difference between the pay for Woman and Men for the same job is becoming bigger and bigger – so financial reasons and other factors may dictate a change in roles and tasks more than HRT. Also you may choose other roles that fit you better, that perhaps were not considered before transitioning.

    My thoughts

    1. A color the same or near your real hair color may look more natural

    2. Real Human hair is lighter in weight, cooler in summer and looks, well, real. (Not over shiny as acrylic can look). You can style it as you wish (Style is not predetermined as with some acrylic ones). Color can be changed.

    3. Both type can be found at this web site for reasonable prices http://wigs.md

    4. Cons: Human hair is more expensive, and has to be styled
